I have lately been out of focus and have not done much to the pursuit of my goals. Dissapointing as that is, it is, however, necessary that from time to time we all take a break and enjoy the finer things in life. Although, I have’nt been enjoying all the finer things, I have however, been vegetating a bit and that too is important. And now I am back, with renewed energy and focus, back to business.

I must say, for all my depression, I am quite a fighter. I always get up and try again and keep on fighting. I have been raised never to give up, to always find a way.

My problem is keeping focus. Perhaps that’s why I had that dream to remind me to stay focused. Let’s face it people – Michael Phelps is that good because he only swims. Now granted that he swims in different styles and races, but, he only competes in swimming. So I need to focus on just one thing, deliver, and then do something else. I MUST DELIVER FIRST before moving on.

I will achieve my goals. I will deliver. I will be successful.

There is nothing worse than getting where you want to go (or thinking you are close) and then at the last minute failing to achieve. It’s like that marathon runner who runs a very good race, but in the end, gets 2nd place as anothe runner inches him out for 1st place.

It has been more than a week since I met the VC dude and no response. Ofcourse I was counting on it and I was fully charged up and excited. And now, like a deflated balloon, I sit at my desk, thoroughly depressed.

What do I do? I listened to Anthony Robbins for motivation but the words fell flat. He say’s life is what you make of it, and even though I want to believe, I am tired. I don’t know what to do. What can I really do? Probably nothing, other than gather my scattered determination, get up, and box again. Yes, that is what I will do. Get up and throw some punches again – one is bound to hit.

I have been wondering lately that I need a little more than hardwork to get to my goal. What I need is passion. Don’t get me wrong, I think I am already very obsessed with getting to my goals. But is obsession enough? Perhaps it is or perhaps it is not, but I can’t risk finding out an year later ! So from today onwards – I am going to combine my obsession with a relentless passion for what I do.

Logically, I need a list of things I am passionate about. I am going to start making that list today and I hope to build a product around it. The service I am pitching is good but probably not enough to buy me that jumbo jet. I need to couple it with a product. Hmmm…..makes me remember that dream I had (http://insearchofexcellence.wordpress.com/2008/07/25/i-had-a-dream/). Am I spreading myself too thin? Ahhrrrgghhh this is so confusing. I think I need to go workout and freshen my mind.

But one thing I am sure of – I need to be passionate about anything that I do.

Interesting meeting and even more interesting environment. Man oh man. These guys work in a very secluded office area right next to a Golf course and I mean really the best of the best VC’s have their offices there. Very nice.

Anyways, so I met the dude, who btw, was a really really nice guy. He came, he saw, he listened, and then he basically brushed aside me and my biz partner very nicely (oh those nice guys ). But a little dogged persistence and saying 2+2=4 rather than 3+1=4 and we got our shot. Wait, did I hear that right? Yeap – WE GOT OUR SHOT ! And I am so thankful to this person because that’s all we asked for. Just a chance, and opportunity, a shot.

Now comes the tougher part. Now we need to deliver.

This is a bit un-real in the sense that the guy I pitched my service too (yea the billionaire dude who got back to me http://insearchofexcellence.wordpress.com/2008/07/31/bingo/) has now connected me to his partner. And I have a meeting setup with the guy in 1hr. I think the saying ‘be careful what you wish for’ is apt here because I am very nervous about this. Hmmm……actually……no….that saying is not apt. What is correct is ‘be prepared for what you wish for’.  Am I prepared? Yes. Then there really is no problem – just a little nervous excitement. Hopefully I will hit it out of the park and land these guys as a client.

All I need is a chance and an opportunity. I will make it work.

Ahhhh I like the sound of that…..BINGO ! It has been an exciting day as my first step has borne fruit (if you don’t know what I am talking about then go here first bud: http://insearchofexcellence.wordpress.com/2008/07/29/the-first-step/). Yeap, the billionaire dude I sent my service proposal to responded ! Did we hear that right? Did I just say that a billionaire with a gazzillion things on his mind responded to the little guy? Yeap yeap yeap. Wow…..I mean wow ! I mean a fucking WOW !

Ok…so what went right – must be something about my pitch and ofcourse my service. I think it’s mainly my pitch as the service I am offering is not rocket science and I am not re-inventing the wheel exactly. So let’s keep that up chums and replicate it.

But first – I need to deliver to this guy first and seal the deal. A bird in hand is better than twenty in the bush. And if he likes me, then maybe I get an intro to his billionaire friends? After all, birds of a feather flock together. Aarrrhhhgg….enough with the birds…..let’s go get that $10 million !

Well, so I hit the guy up yesterday only to find he is on vacation ! And here I was thinking whether or not to contact him in the first place. Lesson learnt: Do, just do. There is no think, only do. (I think Confucius said something of the sort…..or was it Yoda?)

Today I am going to take the first step towards uncharterted waters. In other words I am going to try and pitch my service/idea to a company and I am going to start at the top. Why not try to reach the top guy and see if he is interested – if not – then I move on to the second step and pitch it to another person. Let’s see how many steps it’s going to take to make a sale? Hmmm……I think probably less than 20 and if it’s more then there is something wrong with my pitch (preferably it should be less than 10). The guy I am pitching to today is a billionaire and a very well known VC and evangelist. Will he bite or will he bail. We shall see.

Unfortunately, I’ve been feeling very un-motivated to do anything lately. All day today – did not spend a second towards the goals. Why? Why am I just drifting…..like dead wood in the river getting thrashed around by the current. Why do I feel so helpless. Is it because my goals are too far stretched. Or is it because I am just lazy. I believe it is the latter. I believe I am not a quitter. I believe I am a winner. I will win. I will make something of my myself. I will be successful. I will be very very successful. I am the best…..the very best. At what? That remains to be seen but I believe I am really good at something. I am determined to succeed and achieve my goals. I will achieve my goals. $10 million – here I come.
